Internet Ad Spending Is About To Surpass TV Ad Spending
Mary Meeker’s 2017 Internet Trends Report was released last week, and here are the three most important stats you need to know:
- Internet Ad Spending is predicted to surpass TV ad spending within the next 6 months.
- Mobile traffic now generates more ad revenue than desktop traffic.
- Google and Facebook accounted for 85% of all the digital advertising growth seen in the US in the last year.
So what do these stats mean for your business?
Put simply; more and more people are watching videos online, so companies are diverting their advertising budget away from traditional TV and moving it towards online video.
The online video trend is rapidly growing, with American adults now spending 5.6 hours a day using digital media.
So if you want to find your future customers, it is now critical to post content on the platforms where they are doing the majority of their viewing.
If you haven’t yet started posting video content online, make sure you start now.

How To Improve Your Rankings On YouTube
This week SearchEngineLand.com published a handy article on how to improve the rankings of your videos on YouTube.
One of the most useful tips they shared related to the type of tags you should use when uploading your videos.
Sherry Bonelli recommends using three types of tags:
- Multiple-word tags
- Single word tags
- Broad term tags
For example if your video is about “how to ask a boy out on a date” you might add multiple word tags like:
- How to ask a boy out on a date
- What to say when you ask a boy out on a date
- How to ask a boy you like out on a date
You could then add single word tags like:
- Ask
- Boy
- Date
And then finally add broad term tags like:
- Dating
- Flirting
- Dates
This combination of multiple word, single word, and broad term tags will help YouTube understand what your videos are about. YouTube can then use this information to make sure your video is seen by the right audience.

Google Adwords 2017 Roadmap Is Loaded With Artificial Intelligence
In SEO news, Google recently shared their Adwords 2017 Roadmap. And Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a common theme amongst all of the new features planned for this year.
Here are the things we think are going to have the biggest impact on your business:
- Split testing will be made redundant by Google’s AI. Adwords will soon be able to predict a user’s preference to show subtle ad variations for price, value, or selection.
- Life event targeting will be easy. Advertisers will soon be able to target people who are getting married, having a baby, buying a house, and many other life events. Google’s AI will determine this based on an understanding of the online behavior of people going through these life events.
- Bots will become mainstream. Voice searches now account for 20% of all searches done via the Google mobile app in the US. AI is allowing developers to build actions that will ‘respond’ to a user's voice search.
With Google now using advanced artificial intelligence and complex machine learning. The days of being able to “trick” Google into giving you good rankings are over. The best way to get top rankings these days is to create great content that helps solve people’s problems.
